McLellan Works

Glasgow, Scotland

An ambitious defurbishment project, McLellan Works is a bold reimagining of the historic former department store, a once integral Glasgow landmark that had endured decades of poor alterations and urban neglect accelerated by high street decline.

McLellan Works is a new kind of work place; holistically designed with fixed spaces for key anchor tenants, collaborative coworking space and collective shared spaces and facilities for meetings, social events and exhibitions. Expressive wayfinding and a strong brand identity help celebrate the building’s unique heritage.

Adjoined to the McLellan Galleries, home to Glasgow School of Art students, the redesign creates a gathering space for tenants, students and the public, re-establishing the Galleries’ presence onto Sauchiehall Street.

The new shop frontages, façade treatment and open lobby correspond with the improvements being made to Sauchiehall Street as part of the Glasgow Avenues project, driving further regeneration.

Intimately understanding our building's unique features differentiates McLellan Works not only as an admirable architectural project and futureproof workspace, but also as a investment in the considerable embodied carbon locked into the existing structure and its continued use.
